A pioneering insurance intermediary, Yokahu, has taken an office within High Weald House to support its rapid growth.
The company was founded in 2019 by a group of specialists in natural disaster insurance, climate finance technology and global weather modelling who believe the insurance sector should play a vital role in building climate resilience.
Yokahu has developed specialised insurance against natural disasters stemming from the climate crisis, with a particular focus on supporting developing nations in Africa, the Caribbean and Asia Pacific that are vulnerable to climate change.
The company is seeing rapid growth and success, having already graduated from two business accelerator programmes, won four industry awards and been selected as a finalist in the United Nations’ AI for the Planet competition. The firm’s founders were also invited by the UN to speak at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai in 2023.
In addition to staff members around the world, Yokahu has a business development department in central London and needed to find a base for its technology and operations team.
Its directors explored a range of options before deciding on High Weald House.
Co-founder & Chief Operating Officer, Farid Tejani (pictured on the left, with CEO Tim McCosh), has now moved into the company’s new office and is recruiting further employees including data scientists, finance professionals and software engineers.
“The south coast is a great place to run an insurance business as there’s a concentration of successful companies and talent in the sector here.
“We need an office that’s extremely professional, well-designed and supports our company values by being highly energy efficient. High Weald House ticks all those boxes and more.
“It’s in a sustainable location, which is important because our staff cycle or get public transport to work. And we have the flexibility to take more space within the building as our business grows.
“We also appreciate the openness of the landlord, Sea Change Sussex, to work with us to accommodate our business and make continual improvements to the facilities. We’re talking, for example, about more secure cycle racks and installing electric vehicle charging points.”
