The western half of the North Bexhill Access Road, which is being developed to the north-west of Bexhill, will open from 4pm this Friday, 14 December 2018. It will connect via a roundabout to Watermill Lane running north, and via another new roundabout to Ninfield Road (A269) near the Freezeland Lane junction, providing a new local travel route.

The North Bexhill Access Road is being developed by local regeneration company Sea Change Sussex to improve the area’s road network and provide access to development land in order to support long-term jobs.

Opening the western half of the road will enable people to travel from Crowhurst and Catsfield to Sidley and Bexhill (and vice versa) via Watermill Lane from Friday afternoon onwards.

When fully complete in 2019, the new road will connect the Combe Valley Way (Bexhill-Hastings Link Road) all the way through to Ninfield Road, reducing congestion around Sidley and improving local journey times.

While the southern, Sidley end of Watermill Lane will not provide vehicle access to the North Bexhill Access Road nor to the northern part of Watermill Lane, there will be a through-path for pedestrians, cyclists and horse-riders when the new road is completed.

In parallel with the construction of the road, South East Water has been laying a new strategic water main and UK Power Networks has been installing a high-voltage supply to serve future businesses in the area.

Sea Change first consulted the community on proposals for the North Bexhill Access Road in summer 2015, before securing planning consent and starting construction in summer 2016.
