A plot on the Bexhill Enterprise Park has been sold to hospitality company Marston’s for the development of a restaurant/pub and ‘lodge hotel’.
The site covers approximately four acres (1.6 hectares), fronts on to the Combe Valley Way near its roundabout and is near the Glovers House offices occupied by Park Holidays UK and the soon-to-be-completed High Weald House offices – as shown.
Marston’s has received conditional planning permission from Rother District Council to develop:
- a part single-storey/part two-storey, 180-cover restaurant/pub plus staff accommodation, made of brick with timber boarding
- a two-storey, 43-bedroom lodge made of brick with timber boarding
- surface parking for 104 cars and 12 cycles
- landscaping and ancillary works
The pub/restaurant will be a convenient place for workers on the business park to get a meal or drink with colleagues, as well as for local residents to visit. Marston’s planning application describes “a food-led family public house/restaurant and lodge style hotel … to cater for local business trade from the new Enterprise Park, as well as car-borne customers already on the highway network.”
The application indicates that the pub/restaurant should create around 48 jobs and the lodge a further 10, and that the company “always seek to achieve a high-quality design and utilise local materials, where appropriate”.
Nationally, Marston’s has over 1,500 public houses, more than 50 hotels/lodges and five regional breweries.
There are an additional five sites available for development on Bexhill Enterprise Park South, and further sites to the north of Combe Valley Way recently opened up by the North Bexhill Access Road (now named Haven Brook Avenue).
